Foil-assisted catamarans. Up to 50% less drag. Over 80% less energy in electric configuration.

Enviroinventions designs and licenses the EnviroCat platform — foil-assisted catamarans from 15 to 50 metres, available in electric, hybrid, and ICE-powered configurations. We work with passenger ferry operators, transport authorities, offshore crew transfer operators, port and emergency services, and yard partners across Norway and the Gulf.

Why foil-assist

EnviroCat sits between conventional catamarans (no lift, limited drag reduction) and full hydrofoils (maximum drag reduction but active control, no retrofit, no conventional propulsion). The foil-assist hull delivers passive lift, no active control surfaces, conventional-propulsion compatibility, and retrofit feasibility.

The design draws on four decades of high-speed catamaran naval architecture by CTO Ola Lilloe-Olsen — 130+ vessels realised since the early 1980s, including electric and hybrid ferries — and on the Norwegian marine-electrification supply chain we work with every day.

How we work

We design and license vessel platforms; we do not own yards or operate vessels. ESS Marine Ltd handles Gulf commercial activity. Yards integrate complete EnviroCat engineering packages — analogous to how Volvo Penta delivers propulsion systems — and operators receive vessels configured to their specific route through a consultative analytical engagement.

The engagement covers route and operational profile modelling, energy budget calculation, configuration optimisation, total-cost-of-ownership analysis, and fleet renewal scenario modelling. It is integral to the platform offering, not a separate consulting service. It is the most differentiating part of working with us.

Partners

The EnviroCat platform integrates technology from Volvo Penta, Kumera Helseth, Servogear, Brunvoll, Brunvoll Mar-El, ZEM, Stadt Towing Tank, Maritime Engineering, and DNV. The platform is propulsion-agnostic across CPP, pod, and waterjet options, with electric drives from multiple compatible suppliers.

Brunvoll Mar-El
Electric drive systems for marine propulsion
Kumera Helseth
Controllable-pitch propellers (CPP); also collaborator on foil-plus-propulsion hull integration and complete vessel designs
Servogear
